Eugene Residential care facility evacuated

A dryer fire in the basement of the All Seasons Residential Care Facility in downtown Eugene resulted in the temporary evacuation of 22 residents, as a precaution because of smoke.

Eugene-Springfield Fire personnel received a call at about 7:40 p.m. about a fire at the facility at 709 W. Broadway, Battalion Chief Leo Giles said at the scene.

At least six fire engines and EMS vehicles responded. The smoke originated in the basement, but the smell permeated the two stories above.

Parishioners and staff at the nearby First Church of the Nazarene assisted residents during the temporary displacement, according to Giles.

The fire was extinguished by 8:30 p.m.

No one was injured. The estimated damage was unknown, but is believed to be minor.
